If Motherless is blocked where you are or you want privacy while browsing, a VPN is one option - but it's not always the best one. Here's an honest look at which VPNs work, which don't, and whether you actually need to spend money on one.
Do You Actually Need a VPN?
Before spending money, figure out what problem you're solving.
"Motherless is blocked by my ISP"
Most ISP blocks are DNS-level blocks - cheap and easy to implement, cheap and easy to bypass. Try changing your DNS first. Switch to Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) or Google (8.8.8.8). Full instructions are in our troubleshooting guide. This is free and takes 2 minutes.
If DNS changes don't work, your ISP is using deep packet inspection (DPI), which is more aggressive. You'll need either a VPN or an alternative frontend.
"Motherless is blocked in my country"
Country-level blocks are harder to bypass. DNS changes usually won't work. You need either a VPN or an alternative frontend like FapSearch that serves content through a different domain.
"I want privacy while browsing"
Valid reason. Your ISP can see that you're visiting Motherless even if they don't block it. A VPN encrypts your traffic so they see VPN traffic instead of adult site visits. But there are lighter-weight options too - keep reading.
"I'm on public/shared WiFi"
Legitimate concern. Anyone on the same network could potentially monitor your traffic. A VPN solves this. So does HTTPS (which Motherless uses), but a VPN adds an extra layer.
VPNs That Work Well
Mullvad - Best for Privacy
Mullvad is the gold standard for privacy-focused VPNs. No email needed to sign up - you get an account number. Pay with cash or crypto if you want zero paper trail.
- No personal info required to create an account
- Independently audited no-logs policy
- Good streaming speeds
- WireGuard protocol for fast connections
- Price: EUR 5/month flat - no annual upselling, no price games
Mullvad doesn't have flashy apps or marketing, but it's the VPN that security researchers actually use. If privacy is your primary concern, this is the answer.
ProtonVPN - Best Free Option
ProtonVPN offers a genuinely usable free tier. Limited servers and you can't pick specific countries, but it works and it doesn't sell your data.
- Free tier with no data caps (rare for free VPNs)
- Based in Switzerland - strong privacy laws
- No ads on the free plan
- Good speeds on paid plans
- Price: Free tier available, paid from around $5/month
The free tier is good enough for occasional use. If you browse Motherless daily, the paid plan is worth it for speed.
NordVPN - Best for Speed
NordVPN has the largest server network and consistently fast speeds. If you're streaming video content on Motherless, buffering with a VPN is the worst - NordVPN minimizes this.
- 5000+ servers worldwide
- Consistently fast for video streaming
- Built-in ad and malware blocking (Threat Protection feature)
- Easy-to-use apps on every platform
- Price: Around $3-4/month on 2-year plans
NordVPN is more commercial than Mullvad or Proton, but it works well and the speeds are genuinely good.
VPNs to Avoid
Most free VPNs are worse than no VPN at all. If you're not paying for the product, you are the product. Free VPNs commonly:
- Log and sell your browsing data to advertisers
- Inject their own ads into your browsing
- Have bandwidth caps that make video unwatchable
- Block adult sites by default
- Have shared IPs that are already blocked everywhere
The exceptions (ProtonVPN's free tier, Windscribe's free tier) are listed above. Everything else - Hola, Betternet, TurboVPN, SuperVPN - should be avoided.
VPNs with "safe browsing" filters sometimes block adult content by default. If you set up a VPN and Motherless still doesn't load, check the VPN's settings for content filtering options and disable them.
Does Motherless Block VPNs?
No. Unlike Netflix or streaming platforms, Motherless doesn't actively detect or block VPN IP addresses. Any reputable VPN with servers in the US or Europe will work without issues.
VPN Alternatives
A VPN isn't the only way to solve these problems. Depending on your situation, something simpler might work better.
DNS Change (Free, Instant)
Bypasses most ISP blocks. Doesn't add privacy - your ISP can still see you're connecting to Motherless - but it gets the site working.
- Set DNS to
1.1.1.1(Cloudflare) or9.9.9.9(Quad9) - Step-by-step instructions in our troubleshooting guide
Alternative Frontend (Free, No Setup)
FapSearch accesses Motherless content through fapsearch.net. If Motherless is blocked but FapSearch's domain isn't, you get full access without any tools or configuration.
- Works when Motherless is blocked
- No account, no installation, no configuration
- Also eliminates Motherless's ad and safety issues
Tor Browser (Free, Maximum Privacy)
Tor routes your traffic through multiple encrypted nodes. Slower than a VPN but free and extremely private. Overkill for most people, but an option if privacy is your top priority and you don't mind slower speeds.
The Bottom Line
Try these in order:
- Change your DNS to
1.1.1.1- free, takes 2 minutes, fixes most blocks - Use FapSearch - free, no setup, works when Motherless is blocked, better experience overall
- ProtonVPN free tier - if you need a VPN but don't want to pay
- Mullvad - if you want serious privacy
- NordVPN - if speed matters most and you don't mind paying
Most people never need to get past step 2. A VPN is the right tool for specific situations - DPI blocks, public WiFi, genuine privacy needs - but it's not the only tool, and it's not always the best one.
